Trauma 101

 

Session 1 of this series will cover the effects of various forms of trauma and toxic stress in early childhood, children’s brain development in the first five years, and the impact of traumatic stress on children’s brain and overall development.

 

In this training you will learn to:

  • Learn the neurobiology of trauma and the impact of toxic stress on the brain and behavior of a child
  • Learn the difference of a challenging behavior and a trauma trigger
  • Learn key trauma sensitive strategies that support children and build their resiliency to reduce the adverse effects of early trauma

Part 1

 

Following an Overview of Trauma 101, this module will help participants go deeper in learning and applying strategies to support children affected by trauma through relationships and the Environment.

Participants will learn:

  • How to develop caring and attuned relationships with young children with histories of trauma
  • Trauma-sensitive strategies for arranging the environment in the home or early learning programs
  • TIP best practices and key strategies that support children’s healing and resiliency, and that strengthen protective factors

Part 2

 

In the second session of Going Deeper, participants will look at trauma through the lens of an individual child. They will apply learning by developing individualized trauma-sensitive behavior plans for children with histories of trauma.

Participants will learn to:

  • Observe behavior, identify triggers, and determine the meaning of a child’s behavior
  • Use data to inform the development of trauma-sensitive behavior plans, specifically for children who have experienced trauma and/or have persistent challenging behaviors
